I made friends with a nice radio station in LA called Star 98.7, and so I wasn't missing the UK music scene too much...but things happen when I go on holiday (one year, Billie Piper was number 1 when I came back, and another Spice Girls were number 1 with Wannabee - I have realised it's dangerous for me to go on holiday).

Anyway, not long into the TV marathon, Will Young's new video came on. I love Will Young - gorgeous voice, great album, so I was glad to see the video for 'Friday's Child'. But, by the end of the video, I was rather enraged (okay, not really, just pissed off).

In the video, he is swimming in the Olympics...and his 'name' across the screen has 'England' BUT if you're in the Olympics you are for Great Britain NOT the individual country. Then, he wins, and at the medal ceremony there is a BRITISH flag! So, if they wanted to make it he was swimming for England (which is wrong, but I will allow him this 'cause, well, he is English :)!) they should at least have the English flag up - not the darn Union Jack!

Anyway, I like the song, etc, etc, but still annoyed... (I could ramble about this for ages cause it annoys me, and many others who are Scottish, Welsh or Northern Irish, when the Union Jack is considered English - just like the English would no doubt be annoyed if the St Andrew's Cross was said to be Great Britain rather than Scottish)...

Okay, that aside, I am loving Hoobastank - go buy their single! Busy busy with exams - so not very fun...

So it wasn't either of my predictions that won Eurovision - I still stand by that Sweden should've won - I do love that song...

Well, in between studying, I have been obsessed with MP3 Blogs, and various other blogs on the internet, and I thought - I could do that! Well, not become a blog on the internet (cause I am a human being, mais oui) but I could post the odd MP3 on my blog. Mine won't be as good as the others, but I have plenty of CDs in my collection and many old/rare tunes to share with others...

So, to get us started, it was a choice between a Busted tune (you all know that one day I would like to admit to liking them) or a Maroon 5 tune (because they are Gods :)) - so I decided to choose a Kara's Flowers tune. They were Maroon 5, when there were 4 of them, and they had just left High School. This tune is called 'Soap Disco' and I love it - it puts me in mind of McFly actually... But it's a good tune - there was a lot of 'promise' for Kara's Flowers album ("The Fourth World") but they didn't get the 'break' they deserved.

Of course, now they do, but enjoy an early 'tune' of the Maroon-ers.
Kara's Flowers - Soap Disco
*link valid for 7 days*

Tomorrow is Eurovision - and I'm going to miss it. Am rather gutted at this because I have been looking forward to seeing the Swedish entry for a long time... Oh well...

I just hope that James Fox does okay and we (Britain/UK) are not seen as another laughing stock after last year's dismal attempt. It could be worse, we could've got no points last year...wait, we did...typical...

On a brighter note, I have Keane's album now and it's bloody amazing! Go and buy it - it will cheer you up after tomorrow night's show.

My tip to win Eurovision is Greece (presuming they're in it) or Sweden. I would've said Ireland, but Westlife fans aren't that big at voting for these shows, so luckily they shouldn't win.

Enjoy!

So, I've been recently going through a lot of old 'Pop' tunes, feeling like I want to 'Go back...waaaay back' and I found the tune by Crush called 'Jellyhead'. If you don't remember, Crush were a band formed in the 90s with 2 girls from BBC's Byker Grove (Donna Air, and the other one that played Leah) and they released one tune.

The coincidence is that this blog just posted the track as well. That's quite spooky...

Why can't pop music be like that? Singing about jeans and Bros? Oh it was the good old days...

I've also been listening to a lot of Britney Spears pre-Slave - you just can't beat a bit of Oops, can you?

*sighs* bring back the good ol' days...

So, Britney in concert - I guess you're all dying to find out what it was like?

Actually, the show was pretty darn good. Granted, she didn't sing live at all (there was a possibility that for one song it was live, but after serious consideration and debate between myself and fellow concert go-ers, it has been decided it was in-fact pre-recorded), but the show was visual-spectacular, and not as raunchy as I thought it was going to be.

She danced around a lot, wore little, skimpy clothes a lot and said 'Wow! You guys!' a lot too. She also swore, which - prior to the self-love and sex songs - lowered the tone of the evening...

My highlight, of course, was JC Chasez supporting her. Man, can that guy dance?! (the answer, of course, folks, is YES) Very dance-y, very energetic, and very handsome. It's understandable why folk only went to see him.

But, Britney was good - possibly not £30 good (see previous blog) but good nonetheless. However, I still grudgingly paid £15 for a tour programme full of semi-clad pictures of her. Now, if it had been JC...

I'm going to see Britney (Spears) in concert tonight - am indifferent about it, in all honesty. From the reviews so far, I'm paying my money (£30 + bf) to see a girl, slightly older than myself, writheh around on stage in next to nothing, snogging a few dancers and singing along with a backing track. Hell, I could go to the Garage and see that any night of the week, and only have to pay £2.00 for a Bacardi Breezer.

What have I let myself in for?

Anyway, everyone also says that it's 'A brilliant show' and that 'All your money for the ticket is shown on the stage'. How? Does she have wallpaper with each 'pound' that has been spent? I dunno... BUT JC Chasez (super plug - buy his album!) is supporting and he IS good and he DOES sing live.

There you go, there's £30 spent well already. Yup, I'm not afraid to admit it - but, in my defence, I bought that £1.99 version so I didn't have to pay more than I needed to... My main reason for buying it, is, well, the b-sides. Okay, I like the main song - it's funky - but Busted b-sides are always pretty cool...

Of course, the other CD (£2.99, 3 tracks & video) has b-sides too, but I'm hoping I can con someone else into buying it for me...Watch this space...

So, I think it'll probably be Busted number one - that would be interesting - especially considering it should be Maroon 5 (why didn't more of you buy their single? Can you not see how fantastic they are??!!?!?!). I hope you all make up for this dire mistake by buying their album - it's fecking fantastic - so you better do that. Plus the album has the videos for both singles & hell, that's enough reason to buy it, right?

Apologies for the erratic use of punctuation in that previous paragraph - English never was my strong point.

Anyway, my single of the week is...Busted - Air Hostess.
I don't like them, just the music...But they are much better than twen2ty4se7en, right? But yeah, not a fan...not a fan...not much of a fan, anyway...well, not their biggest fan...

Interesting how the UK Singles Chart Top 5 consists solely of Non-British Acts... I mean, the first two songs are those which carry 'Parental Advisory' stickers, so that in itself is an achievement.

Whilst solely not pop, I personally found it fantastic to see Maroon 5 doing so well - highest new entry, big up to them. Saw them in concert last year, and it was well worth the £9 - best concert-to-money ratio in a long time.

Anyway, feel free to analyse the UK charts here. You know things in the pop world are getting dire when the support acts try to get screams only by mentioning the main acts names. Just so they can go 'it's amazing when you have girls screaming at you on stage'. Granted, it's possibly been going on for years. I've only just had the pleasure of noticing it.

Most of the time we're screaming at you to get off, boys.

Nevertheless, they are clearly destined for big things - I mean, their first single is, possibly, maybe going to be used in the soundtrack to that massive hit TV show 'The O.C.' which I know you're all watching.

In the meantime, I would suggest you listen to McFly for your dose of pop-rock.

So, I decided to create a 'blog' - I've been on LJ for a while, but didn't like the layout...so decided to try this for a change...

Hopefully this is going to be the first of many 'blogs'.
